Col. Jay Pittman, 302nd Airlift Wing commander, accompanied by the wing's command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Westerlund, met with Colorado elected officials June 9-10 in Washington D.C. The visits were part of the Air Force Reserve Integration Orientation Course that gave leadership from the 302nd AW, an Air Force Reserve organization, the opportunity to share updates on the wing's recent and upcoming deployments as well as significant events.

The visits included: Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet as well as Reps. Doug Lamborn and Mike Coffman of the state's 5th and 6th districts respectively. The visits, according to the wing's leadership, proved to be successful in fostering relations between the elected officials and the airlift wing.

Describing the meetings, Chief Westerlund said, "I thought our visits were extremely productive in getting our messages out. Overall, (the elected officials) were very interested in our deployments and recent Total Force Integration efforts at the 302nd. I think it's an incredible opportunity for the wing to share its aerial firefighting story and let our representatives know what our Air Force Reserve members are contributing to our nation's defense."
