C-130J in the pit

A C-130J Super Hercules, assigned to the California Air National Guard's 146th Airlift Wing, taxis to a reload "pit" to take on nearly 3,000 gallons of fire retardant at McClellan Air Tanker Base in Sacramento, California, Aug. 4, 2015. The aircrew received a tasking to provide support to the growing Rocky Fire north of San Francisco, which had consumed approximately 65,000 acres as of Aug. 4. The crew was joined three other C-130s from both the 146th AW and the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Airlift Wing to combat the Rocky Fire. The aircraft contain the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System which allows them to support wildfire containment in conjunction with fire crews on the ground. MAFFS system onload

Members of the 39th Aerial Port Squadron along with C-130 loadmasters assigned to the 731st Airlift Squadron push a U.S. Forest Service Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System unit on to a 302nd Airlift Wing C-130, Aug. 2, 2015 here. Senior Airman Winn with RAF cadets

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Senior Airman Josh Winn explains some of the capabilities of an Air Force Reserve Command C-130H to Royal Air Force College cadets July 8, 2015 here. Cherdron visited the Air Force Reserve Command’s 302nd Airlift Wing here and the 310th Space Wing at Schriever AFB, Colo. as part of the German and U.S. Armed Forces Reserve Officers Exchange program. Approximately 25 German Reserve Officers, from all service branches, come to the U.S. every year to spend two weeks with their U.S. Armed Forces counterparts. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Senior Master Sgt. Jane Link, 731st Airlift Squadron, C-130 flight engineer flight chief celebrates the conclusion of her nearly 22-year Air Force career that spanned over four decades during her fini-flight, June 6, 2015 here. Link, who first enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1975, said she started her career in positions that were not traditionally held by women. Early in her career, Link served as an aircraft maintainer working on KC-135, FB-111 and RS-135 aircraft. She later cross-trained and served as a space systems equipment specialist before separating from Active Duty in 1983. She returned to the Air Force Reserve in 2001 as a C-130 crew chief with the 302nd Maintenance Squadron and finished her career as a C-130 flight engineer assigned to the 731st AS. Link ended her career with more than 2,420 flying hours including 119 combat sorties and more than 60 Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System sorties. (U.S. Air Force photo/Ann Skarban)

Berry new 731st commander

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Members of the 731st Airlift Squadron welcomed a new commander during a ceremony June 6, 2015 here. Lt. Col. Greg Berry, C-130 navigator, took charge of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 731st AS from Col. Chris Clay. Berry joined the 731st AS in 2005 and has served as an instructor, flight commander, chief of tactics, director of operations, and acting deputy group Commander before on his way to becoming the squadron commander. “With his achievements, he is out there in the front,” said Col. Robert Stanton, the 302nd Operations Group Commander. “I think this is what this unit needs for the future. It needs someone who’s willing to step into the hot-seat when it’s hot.” “I’m walking into the perfect situation,” said Berry. “We have excellent leadership across the board and we are blessed to have all the people we have working with us. I love our country, I love our Air Force, I love our airplanes and I love our unit, said Berry. “This is a dream come true.” The 731st AS is the flying squadron of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 302nd Airlift Wing.
