Twenty members of the 302nd SFS attended Patriot Defender training at Fort Wolters, Texas, Feb. 1, 2014. This 16-day training concentrates on combat deployment type situations. Patriot Defender is broken into two halves of training. First the Airmen learned and refined such skills as mission planning and development, land navigation, and M-4 and M-9 firing. The second half concentrated detainee and POW procedures, tactical combat casualty care and urban operations among many other topics. The final three days of the second half of training were dedicated to field training. This involved putting the new and refined skills into practice. The units were briefed on a mission and given a different task each day.

“Overall, this experience not only taught us a lot but also gave us the chance to apply what we learned,” said Senior Airman Jessica Avila, a fire team member with the 302nd SFS. “Our motivation and positive attitude throughout our training brought out the best in all of us.” (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Jessica Avila)
