302nd Airlift Wing Photos

New generation of firefighting equipment arrives at Peterson

Master Sgt. Thomas Freeman looks on as members of the 302nd Airlift Wing work to offload a second-generation Military Airborne Firefighting System unit from its C-130 transport March 12, 2009, at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Known as MAFFS II, the unit augments the current MAFFS system, but is portable and self contained, making it more cost effective. Over time, MAFFS II will replace existing MAFFS units throughout the military's firefighting fleet supported by three Air National Guard wings as well as the Air Force Reserve's 302nd AW at Peterson. Sergeant Freeman is a loadmaster with the 731st Airlift Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Stephen Collier)
