302nd Airlift Wing Photos

New generation of firefighting equipment arrives at Peterson

Senior Master Sgt. Derek Ashcraft directs a forklift driver on how to properly remove portions of a second-generation Military Airborne Firefighting System unit March 12, 2009, at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Known as MAFFS II, the unit augments the current MAFFS system, but is portable and self contained, making it more cost effective. Over time, MAFFS II will replace existing MAFFS units throughout the military's firefighting fleet supported by three Air National Guard wings as well as the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson. Sergeant Ashcraft is a loadmaster with the 731st Airlift Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Stephen Collier)
