Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. Shannon Memmelaar makes final preparations to receive U.S. and allied paratroopers June 3, 2012, before taking off to support a joint airdrop exercise outside the French village of Sainte Mere Eglise. U.S. and allied paratroopers, together with U.S., French and German aircrews and aircraft, took part in the large airdrop exercise as part of the 68th Anniversary of the Normandy D-Day invasion. The village of Saint Mere Eglise was one of the first towns liberated by 82nd and 101st Airborne paratroopers in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944. Every year, the Normandy region celebrates and remembers the sacrifices of U.S. and Allied forces to liberate the area. Memmelaar is a C-130 loadmaster assigned to the 302nd Airlift Wing, an Air Force Reserve unit. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Collier)
