Army Sgt. Stephanie Cortez looks on as a parachute rigger with the 5th Quartermaster Company reviews with an allied paratrooper the step-by-step procedures for securing a parachute rig June 3, 2012, in Cherbourg, France. U.S. and allied paratroopers, together with U.S., French and German aircrews and aircraft, took part in a large airdrop exercise outside of Sainte Mere Eglise as part of the 68th Anniversary of the Normandy D-Day invasion. The village of Saint Mere Eglise was one of the first towns liberated by 82nd and 101st Airborne paratroopers in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944. Every year, the Normandy region celebrates and remembers the sacrifices of U.S. and Allied forces to liberate the area. Cortez is assigned to the 5th QM Co. based in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
