Remembering a fellow “Brother”
World War II veteran Al Mambre receives a floral arrangement to place at the base of the recently unveiled memorial to Army Maj. Richard “Dick” Winters June 6, 2012, near Utah Beach, France. Mambre, a member of the famed “Easy” Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, was joined by other World War II veterans and more than 200 attendees to unveil a statue dedicated to Winters. The memorial eulogizes Winter’s unwavering commitment to the soldiers he was assigned and the leadership young officers and noncommissioned officers showcased during battle in Europe. Winters and his company were made famous by the New York Times bestseller and same-titled television series “Band of Brothers” that documents the Airborne paratroopers’ time fighting in France, Holland and Germany.
