ANG, Air Force Reserve support aerial firefighting response
Air Force Reservists from the 302nd Maintenance Group prepare a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System-equipped C-130 Hercules aircraft June 27 before it launches from Peterson Air Force Base to help fight the Waldo Canyon Fire near Colorado Springs, Colo. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial firefighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100 feet wide. The 302nd MXG, a subordinate organization to the 302nd Airlift Wing, is based at Peterson AFB, an Air Force installation located in southern Colorado. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Stephany D.
