Hometown news allows Reservists to highlight accomplishments Published Oct. 20, 2011 By Rebekah Williamson 302nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Members of the 302nd Airlift Wing now have an easier way to share newsworthy events and accomplishments with their hometown publications. The 302nd AW's Public Affairs office recently introduced the newest version of the Department of Defense's Joint Hometown News Service Program news release submission form. The new Web-based, interactive release provides a user-friendly form that decreases the amount of time needed to fill out and submit. The Hometown News Release Program is designed to help service members share with their hometown news outlets individual accomplishments such as promotions and awards and recognition for serving in unique roles, like Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom or humanitarian relief missions. Once a member fills out the secure Web form, the 302nd AW Public Affairs office will review the final submission for accuracy and authenticity, and then forward the submission to the DoD's Joint Hometown News Release department, based in Ft. Meade, Md. Once received by the Joint Hometown News Release Service, the information provided on the electronic form is crafted into a news release and distributed to civilian print and Web publications to the hometowns indicated on the submitter's form. The decision to print the release in the publication however, is a decision made by the civilian publication's editorial staff. Members interested in sharing their story with specific outlets can contact the 302nd AW Public Affairs at (719) 556-4117 for further assistance.
