Air Force Reserve C-130 units get new commanders

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Two Air Force Reserve Command C-130 wings with high-profile special missions welcomed new commanders in January.

Brig. Gen. Richard Moss, 403rd Wing commander at Keesler AFB, Miss., retired from the Air Force after 38 years of service.

Col. James J. Muscatell replaced General Moss as commander of the 403rd WG. Colonel Muscatell formerly commanded the 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson AFB, Colo.

Col. Jack H. Pittman Jr. assumed command of the 302nd AW. Before moving to Colorado, he was director of intelligence, air, space and information operations at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga.

The 403rd WG has two flying squadrons. The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters, flies WC-130J aircraft in support of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The wing's 815th Airlift Squadron, known as the Flying Jennies, provides troop and cargo airlift with C-130J aircraft.

Flying C-130H's, the 302nd AW's 731st AS also transports troops and cargo. In addition, the squadron has the capability to fight wildfires with the removable modular airborne fire fighting system. (Air Force Reserve Command News Service)
