Maj. John J. Dumont assumed command of the 302nd Security Forces Squadron during a ceremony Sept. 19 here.

"I have the most incredible group of professionals in the reserve or active world," said Major Dumont. I've worked in both and I know that for sure. I see it every day. The esprit de corps and teamwork, I don't think I've ever seen any tighter. I feel pretty lucky to take over this squadron."

The major's management style also reflects his personal guiding principles. "I live by the Air Force core values, always have and always will -- Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence In All We Do."

Lt. Col. Michael Burns, 302nd Mission Support Group commander, was the presiding officer of the assumption of command ceremony. While attending the post-ceremony reception, Colonel Burns said Major Dumont had the qualities he looks for in a leader.

"He has all the skills we look for in a commander: steadfastness, adheres to core values and decisiveness," Colonel Burns said. "But there are a couple other traits that I think separate good commanders from great commanders, and we see a great commander in him. Those traits include humility and compassion. He cares about people; he cares about the Airmen and their families. He knows it's not about himself, he knows it's about the Airmen that he's going to be in front of, and working with."

The 302nd Security Forces Squadron is comprised of more than 60 personnel.
