PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Master Sgt. Sean Stephens, a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System certified loadmaster assigned to the 52nd Airlift Squadron explains the functionality of the portion of the MAFFS II system controlled by the C-130 loadmasters to Lt Gen Michael Dubie, Deputy Commander of U.S. Northern Command. The combatant command’s general visited the Air Force Reserve’s 302nd Airlift Wing on April 17, 2014 here to receive a MAFFS mission overview. The wing’s aerial fire fighting mission highlights interagency cooperation with the 302nd AW being a federal force belonging to the Department of Defense, yet working in concert with the National Interagency Fire Center and the U.S. Forest Service. NIFC determines fire fighting needs and strategies. Then, when it is determined MAFFS will be utilized, NIFC through U.S. Northern Command requests the DOD, U.S. Air Force resources.
