PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- In view of the Sumit 38 memorial here, Col. Courtney Arnold, Commander of the 302nd Airlift Wing shares the story of the 302nd Airlift Wing Airmen who lost their lives in support of the wing’s Modular Airborne Fire Fighting mission with Lt. Gen. Michael Dubie, deputy commander of U.S. Northern Command during the combatant commander’s visit to the 302nd AW April 17, 2014. While en route to Colorado on May 13, 1995, the C-130 assigned to the 302nd AW crashed after having delivered personnel and equipment to support wildland firefighting efforts in Boise, Idaho. The Airmen who perished in the crash are: Lt. Col. Robert Buckhout; Capt. Geoffrey Boyd; 1st Lt. Lance Dougherty; Chief Master Sgt. Jimmie Vail; Master Sgt. Jay Kemp; and Staff Sgt.
