General illustrates importance of 'MAFFS'
U.S. Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of U.S. Northern Command, produces a video Feb. 7, 2009, in front of a 302nd Airlift Wing-assigned C-130 at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The general provided a one minute, 30 second clip addressing the U.S. military's role in homeland defense via wildland firefighting missions. The video was expected to air at the Aerial Firefighting USA conference to be held Feb. 19-20 in Anaheim, Calif. The Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard both use Modular Airborne Firefighting Systems, known as 'MAFFS,' to fight wildfires if called upon to support state and local governments.
