New generation of firefighting equipment arrives at Peterson
Staff Sgt. Joseph Chavez helps guide a second-generation Military Airborne Firefighting System unit March 12, 2009, at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Known as MAFFS II, the unit augments the current MAFFS system, but is portable and self contained, making it more cost effective. Over time, MAFFS II will replace existing MAFFS units throughout the military's firefighting fleet supported by three Air National Guard wings as well as the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson. Sergeant Chavez is a loadmaster with the 731st Airlift Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Stephen Collier)
