Dropping for D-Day
An allied paratrooper falls to earth June 3, 2012, while re-enacting the D-Day airborne operation on the La Fiere fields near Sainte Mere Eglise, France. The drops commemorated the heroic Normandy invasion of World War II paratroopers who made the jump 68 years ago. After the jump, Americans and allied troops marched into the village to the sounds of cheers from local residents. The paratrooper drop was one of the highlights in northern France commemorating the 68th anniversary of D-Day. (U.S. Army photo/Staff Sgt. Sharilyn Wells)
