‘Sumit 38’ fallen remembered with re-dedication ceremony
A model of ‘Sumit 38,’ an Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules that crashed in May 1995, remains covered before being re-dedicated during an Aug. 4, 2012, ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The memorial, which honors the six AF Reservists who perished during the crash, was re-dedicated with family members of the fallen and 302nd Airlift Wing and 52nd Airlift Squadron members present. The memorial was moved from its previous location as part of the wing’s expansion project under the Total Force Initiative framework. The Airmen who were killed when their aircraft crashed approximately 60 miles southeast of Mountain Home, Idaho, are: Lt. Col. Robert Buckhout; Capt. Geoffrey Boyd; 1st Lt. Lance Dougherty; Chief Master Sgt. Jimmie Vail; Master Sgt. Jay Kemp; and Staff Sgt. Michael Scheideman. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Collier)
