302nd Airlift Wing Photos

A sense of urgency

Staff Sgt. Abdul Ganeu Abdulai, a C-130 Hercules crew chief, races back to a Modular Airborne Firefighting System "pit" April 28 during the 2010 Modular Airborne Firefighting System certification training in Greenville, S.C. Maintenance and ground crews involved with MAFFS support several missions when aircraft return from a fire, including aircraft power generation, refueling and rearming with fire retardant or pressurized water. The annually-held certification brought together more than 400 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Airmen and their unit's C-130s to receive certification from the U.S. Forest Service in aerial firefighting. The certification runs April 25-May 1. Sergeant Abdulai is assigned to the Air Force Reserve's 302nd Airlift Wing. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Collier)
