Prepare to depart
A C-130J crew chief with the California Air National Guard coordinates with aircrew prior to the aircraft's launch June 24, 2013, from Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., to support the West Fork Complex fires. Aircraft and Airmen from the California ANG's 146th Airlift Wing, together with Air Force Reservists with the 302nd AW, have joined together to provide aerial firefighting support to Rocky Mountain wildfires. The aircraft make use of the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System, or "MAFFS," to drop fire retardant in support ground forces. Since July 25, MAFFS aircraft and aircrews have dropped 169,000 gallons of retardant in 2013. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Stephen J. Collier)
