Staff Sgt. William Powell scans a common access card Feb. 5, 2009, at Peterson Air Force Base's West Gate in Colorado. The CAC card is registered with the Defense Biometric Identification System, known as DBIDS, a new security tool being used at the base. To gain access to Peterson, all Department of Defense identification card holders are required to register with DBIDS. Peterson is the first stateside Air Force installation to implement the system.
